Surtr’s Flames: Declaring War
In Muspelheim no Town or Ruin is attacked without a declaration. Declare, wait out the waiting period, then break the target in your Battle Time. This page is how every Town and Ruin changes hands.
- Keep your Tribe's War Declaration Tokens in stock. Every declaration on a Ruin or Town consumes some. They recover 1 an hour, and R4 and R5 can buy up to 24 a day in the Tribe Warehouse.
- Declare early. Each building level has its own waiting period before the attack can start.
- Attack in your Tribe's Battle Time Slot. The target must fall during Battle Time.
- Defeat the Defenders, then bring the Durability to zero. Once the Defenders are gone, your troops start the destruction.
- Hold it through the protection period, then defend it. After the protection period it can be declared on again.
The steps, in the game's words
- Declare. “Declaring war on a Ruin or Town requires consuming a certain number of War Declaration Tokens. War Declaration Tokens automatically recover over a fixed period of time, or they can be purchased in the Tribe Warehouse.”
- Wait. “When declaring war on buildings of different levels, a corresponding War Declaration waiting period must pass before you can initiate attacks.”
- Destroy. “After eliminating a Town's Defenders, attacking Troops will initiate a Town Destruction action. If the building's Durability is successfully reduced to zero during Battle Time, the building will be occupied.”
- Protect. “Once occupied, the building enters a protection period, after which a new war declaration can be initiated.”
War Declaration Tokens
- They recover on their own: 1 token an hour.
- R4 and R5 members can buy more in the Tribe Warehouse. Buying spends Tribe resources, up to 24 tokens a day.
- At the limit, both stop. When your Tribe holds as many tokens as its limit allows, it cannot buy more and its tokens stop recovering.
- The limit rises with the Chronicles. At certain Chronicles stages your Tribe's token limit goes up. The Chronicles screen shows the current limit.
Battle Time and Truce Time
The Rules: “each Tribe will observe a daily [Battle Time Slot] and [Truce Time Slot]. During the [Battle Time Slot], neutral Towns or Ruins occupied by a Tribe may be attacked by other Tribes that have declared war.” Your Tribe's own slot is on your screen; plan your sieges around it.
Finding a target
Filter the map thumbnail. It finds the Towns you can declare war on, and the Ruins, Air Docks, Manors and battlefields that matter.
Giving a building up
“Each level of neutral City has an occupation limit.” Tribe R5 and R4 members can Abandon a building their Tribe holds. When the countdown ends, the building is unoccupied again, with its Durability restored and its Defenders refreshed.
For tribe leaders
- Spend tokens on the targets your Battalion can finish in your Battle Time.
- Buy tokens before a big night. R4 and R5 can buy up to 24 a day, with Tribe resources.
- Only R4 and R5 can abandon a building. Agree on which ones to give up in the Tribe before anyone does.
- Don't declare and walk away. The building falls only if its Durability reaches zero in Battle Time.
- Don't let your Tribe run out of tokens before a big night. Stock up from the Tribe Warehouse ahead of time.
- Don't sit at the token limit. At the limit, tokens stop recovering. Spend them.
- Don't abandon by accident. An abandoned building goes back to neutral with full Durability and fresh Defenders.
